READING AND WRITING
The RW&N classes at Port Melbourne Neighbourhood Centre provide students with the opportunity to improve their literacy skills in a supportive environment. This allows many to become more engaged socially and develop their capacities so that they can pursue further education, undertake volunteering opportunities or gain employment.
Some lessons have particular learning objectives around a theme, for example writing a short email or writing a story about their weekend. While writing is the key it is always necessary to assist most of the students with basic grammar, vocabulary and how to frame their work. Some students pursue projects in keeping with their interests. Others enjoy using special PC programs and even games that built their confidence and skill level.
